Risk It or Quit It?

Risk It or Quit It? explores the behavioural logic behind digital vouchers and platform reward systems, questioning how incentives presented as voluntary benefits can also steer consumption and repeated engagement. Research into voucher histories, perceived value, gamification and reinforcement informed an interaction model centred on uncertainty, reward, penalty and the decision to continue or stop.

The final outcome translates these mechanisms into an Arduino-based installation inspired by claw and capsule machines. Coloured spheres carry different point values, while sensors, programmable lighting, sound and mist provide immediate feedback as scores accumulate towards an unknown threshold. The resulting game makes the normally invisible logic of digital incentive systems physical, allowing reward, risk and conditional choice to be experienced through direct interaction.
