Addiction explores how dependence develops across everyday substances and behaviours, using tobacco as a visual and cultural reference point for a wider discussion of addictive systems. Primary research and a 30-day self-observation experiment examine how repeated consumption can shift from routine and pleasure towards dependency, habit and withdrawal.
The final outcome translates these findings into a motion graphic structured around the individual, the body and wider society. Archival imagery, collage, typography, data and animated visual metaphors are combined to examine the physical, cultural and economic dimensions of addiction, presenting it not only as a personal condition but as a phenomenon shaped by broader social systems.
